When the storm water takes over!
Kanawha, Putnam and surrounding Counties may not get the bulk of category 3 or 4 hurricanes, but we are usually in the path of the remnants. This is true of storms such as Hurricane Ivan in 2004 that caused significant flooding in West Virginia and Hurricane Sandy that brought over 2 feet of snow to our area which caused collapsed roofs, loss of power for weeks and flooding as the snow melted. We also know that severe flooding doesn’t always have to be caused by a hurricane. In June of 2016 over 10 inches of rain fell in a 24 hour period causing catastrophic flooding the likes of, we hadn’t seen in this area in over 100 years.
